Career Sovereignty Session
You’ve built a successful career.
Maybe a very successful one.
But somewhere along the way, work started taking more than you wanted to give it.
Your time. Your energy. Your freedom. Maybe even pieces of your identity.
Work owns your time. This session is getting work to stop owning you.
Maybe now you’re wondering:
Is this still the career I want?
You’re still winning at the job. The question is what you want work to start doing for your life.
You may not know the answer yet — stay and reshape, change organizations, change careers, leave, or something in between. Every option stays on the table.
You just know that continuing with the way things are doesn’t feel like a particularly good answer.
That’s where the Career Sovereignty Session starts: from inside the seat you’re already in.
You don’t need a five-year plan.
You need to understand what you’re solving for.
Most career advice starts with the job.
- What role do you want next?
- What are your skills?
- Who’s hiring?
- What should your LinkedIn profile say?
Those things matter.
But they come later.
Before deciding what work you should do, it helps to get clear about the life that work needs to support.
- What do you want more of?
- What are you no longer willing to trade away?
- How much money do you actually need?
- How much longer are you willing to trade your health for money?
- How important are autonomy, flexibility, stability, challenge, status or meaning now?
- What parts of your current working life are worth preserving?
- And what has become too expensive to keep?
Those are different questions.
And they can lead to very different answers.
Career sovereignty isn’t about escaping work. It’s about regaining agency over it.
The goal isn’t a prescribed leap. Sometimes the right answer is reshaping the job you have. Sometimes it’s leaving. The session examines all of it.
Sometimes the right answer is a new career.
Sometimes it’s self-employment or portfolio work.
Sometimes it’s reshaping the job you already have.
Sometimes it’s simply recognizing that your current situation is working better than you thought, once you understand what actually matters to you.
Career sovereignty means making those decisions deliberately, rather than letting the machinery of your career make them for you.
The session
We’ll spend 90 minutes working through your situation together.
This isn’t a personality test or a generic career-coaching conversation.
Where you are now
What’s working, what’s not, and what your career is currently costing you in time, energy, freedom and opportunity.
What you actually want
Not simply your next job title, but the kind of life you’re trying to create and the role you want work to play within it.
Your constraints
Money. Family. Benefits. Geography. Risk tolerance. Health. Skills. Timing. Responsibilities. Because a career strategy that ignores reality isn’t much of a strategy.
Your options
We’ll explore the paths available to you, including possibilities you may not have seriously considered yet. That could mean reshaping your current role, changing organizations, changing careers, working independently, building a portfolio career or something else entirely.
Your next moves
We’ll turn the conversation into action. Not a giant reinvention plan. A clearer direction and a small number of practical moves that help you learn, test assumptions and regain momentum.
By the end of the session, you should have a clearer picture of what you want work to do for your life now, a better understanding of what’s actually wrong with your current situation, a set of realistic options worth exploring, greater clarity about the trade-offs between those options, and a practical next step, or several, that you can begin immediately.
You probably won’t leave knowing exactly what you’ll be doing five years from now. That’s not the point. You’ll leave better equipped to make the decisions that get you there.
You leave with a written synthesis: what I heard you wanting from work, the options worth weighing, and concrete next steps you can act on.
This session may be for you if
- You’ve been successful in your career, but find yourself wondering why you’re still not happy.
- You’re still performing in a large organization or public-sector world — complex systems, politics, benefits, a title that does real identity work — and you want to redesign how work fits your life while you still have the platform.
- You’re tired, restless, bored or wondering if you’re burning yourself out.
- You know something needs to change, but you’re wary of doing something reckless.
- You’ve spent years becoming very good at work you may not want to keep doing.
- You’re weighing a different relationship with the career you already have — reshape the role, change organizations, leave, retirement, self-employment, consulting, portfolio work — and you want to examine the full set before you move.
Or you’ve reached the uncomfortable point where the answer to “What do I want next?” is: I genuinely don’t know. That’s enough to start.
This probably isn’t for you if
- You’re primarily looking for résumé writing, interview coaching or help landing a specific job.
- You’re looking for someone to tell you exactly what career you should choose.
- Or you’re looking for a motivational pep talk about quitting your job and following your passion.
I don’t believe most people need more career hype. They need to think about what work even is and what type of relationship they want with it.
The Career Sovereignty Session is 90 minutes devoted entirely to your situation, your options and what comes next — plus a written synthesis.
90-minute session + a written synthesis
A written synthesis: what I heard you wanting from work, the options worth weighing, and concrete next steps you can act on.
Still wondering whether this is the right place to start?
Do I need to know what I want before booking?
No.
In fact, not knowing is one of the best reasons to have the conversation.
You don’t need a destination before you begin. We can start by understanding what isn’t working, what matters now and what possibilities are worth investigating.
Are you going to tell me to quit my job?
Not necessarily.
Keeping your current job may be exactly the right decision.
The objective is not change for the sake of change. It’s making a more deliberate decision about the role you want work to play in your life.
Is this only for people changing careers?
No.
Career sovereignty can involve changing careers, but it can also mean changing your role, negotiating different conditions, reducing your dependence on one employer, becoming self-employed, building several income streams, redesigning the way you work, or changing the relationship you currently have with your work.
What happens after the session?
Within three business days, I send a written synthesis covering what I heard you wanting from work, options to consider, and concrete next steps. Enough to act on your own. No obligation for further work with me.
Make work something that works for you.
You don’t need to have everything figured out. You just need a useful place to begin.
