You blame distractions, work, and a lack of time for not living the life you want, because it’s a hell of a lot easier than facing a harsh truth.

You say you’re too busy. Too overwhelmed. Too tired.

Bullshit.

You’re just scared.

Social media isn’t the problem. Neither is your inbox, your boss, the political situation, the economy, or whatever outrage is trending today.

Those are shields, some convenient excuses to hide behind and help you avoid facing what you already know to be true.

You’re not living the life you want, and you’re terrified to admit it. Because if you do, that puts you on the hook to change.

And while you might say you want something better, deep down, you don’t want to pay the price. Because change costs. It demands discomfort, of letting go of who you’ve been. It demands a kind of death, a murder even. You’ll be asked to kill the version of you who’s comfortable, competent, predictable. And you like that person, and have gotten pretty good at being them. You certainly don’t want to kill them.

But that’s the toll for becoming the person you’re meant to be.

Transformation always comes with grief.

And so you’re scared.

Scared of what it would mean to finally stop numbing out and face your life. Scared of what would happen if you actually committed to becoming the person you know you’re meant to be. Scared of the cost of change.

So you scroll. You overeat. You zone out. You drink more than you should. You bury yourself in busyness. You blame the world for stealing your time and energy, when the truth is, you’re giving it away to anyone and everyone.

There’s a war inside you. Between who you are and who you could be.

And most days, the scared part of you wins. Because it’s easier. It’s familiar. Because burning it all down and rebuilding feels like too much.

But here’s the truth:

  • Every time you avoid the battle, you strengthen your current identity.
  • Every time you scroll past discomfort, you reinforce the chains.
  • Every time you choose numbness over action, you abandon the future you want.

The Stoics knew this. Marcus Aurelius wrote,

“You have power over your mind—not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”

They believed we suffer more in imagination than in reality. That fear is a liar. That the obstacle is the path.

But you can’t walk that path until you admit what you’re avoiding.

Ask yourself this:

What am I hiding from right now?

  • That project you keep postponing.
  • That hard conversation you keep dodging.
  • That change you keep saying you’ll start “next month.”

You already know what’s waiting on the other side.

The only question is whether you’ll keep running, or finally face it.

If you’re ready to stop running, I can help. I won’t pretend it’ll be easy, but it will be worth it.

The path to the life you want isn’t blocked by distraction. It’s blocked by fear.

I help people move through that. If you’re ready, I’m here.

Quotation that I’ve been pondering

Writer Kieran Drew shared this gem in one of his recent newsletter articles:

“If you can succeed at something you hate, imagine how good you’d be at something you love.”

That promise – unlocking what’s possible when you build a life around what you love – is at the core of my mission. It’s why I do what I do.

Journal prompt

Take a few minutes to reflect on the following question:

“How much of my day is spent doing things out of obligation rather than out of interest?”

The more you can shift the balance toward doing what genuinely interests you, the higher your quality of life will climb. And that shift is at the heart of what I help people achieve.
