Career Coach & Work Architect.

Helping You Build a Career that is perfect for you!

Hey there! I’m Tim.

I am a career coach and a work architect. But what does THAT mean?

It means I work with people to change the role that work plays in their lives.

Work is broken for many people, and this has an enormous impact on their overall quality of life.

I help people make work something that works for them.

Career Coaching For Successful Professionals Who Hate Their Job

You spend your day in meeting after meeting, your email inbox is overflowing, and your boss just tasked you with two more things, both of them due yesterday. Sound familiar?

One of your employees is out sick. Another is busy applying for a new job, as he can’t get along with the rest of the team. You’ve worked your ass off, but when you think about how much you accomplished, you’re not sure you moved anything forward.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. A huge number of “successful” professionals are miserable at work. Their jobs leave them feeling drained. They can’t remember the last time they had time to do something amazing or fun. And then a myriad of bad habits crept in until one inciting incident serves as a catalyst for change.

Has it happened to you yet? Are you going to keep resenting your job until it happens to you?

I hope not.

That is the problem with being successful. You will get rewarded with more work. Which might not be too bad if you are doing work that you love. Unfortunately, there are few people that can honestly say that.

I am NOT advocating that you quit your job and open a bakery because you are passionate about baking croissants. (Although to be honest, I could go for a tasty croissant….)

The whole “follow your passion and you will never work a day in your life!” movement is dangerous. It can lead you to a decision that you regret, one that leaves you with little money to support yourself and family or that leads to you taking projects you’d rather not work on, but hey, one needs to put bread on the table. It can also leave you feeling lost and confused when you keep changing jobs and discovering that job after job, you aren’t “passionate” about the work that you are doing.

That’s where I come in.

I work with successful professionals, people often in their mid-career, to re-imagine the role that work plays in their life. I help change work from something that you have to do to live to something that you can enjoy.

What’s my secret to helping people do this?

I play two critical roles with my clients:

    1. Career coach. You may not realize it, but you could very well be chasing the wrong dream. Most people aren’t clear about what they want out of their work. I help you get that clarity and help you identify and remove roadblocks that keep from you moving towards your career goals.
    2. Work architect. If you aren’t intentional about shaping how you work, someone else will design it for you. With my support, you can develop new ways of approaching your work, which will allow you to stop resenting the time that you have to spend at work. You have more flexibility to accomplish this than you think. I can work with you to develop the belief that change is possible before we co-create the steps to make change happen.

When you combine these two practices, the result is a powerful transformation. The type of transformation that changes the trajectory of your career, and by extension, your life.

Why Work With Me?

Figuring out who is the right coach for you is difficult. I have faced this same challenge, so can relate!

Here are a few things about me and my approach that I feel set me apart.

  1. Real world know-how. I have worked as a leader for many years, leading transformational projects. I understand firsthand the challenges facing successful professionals today, so can directly relate to the pressures that you face.
  2. Personal experience with trauma and burnout. I suffered through an extremely serious work-related burnout. One serious enough to have me spend some time recovering in an institution for mental health, and forcing me to undergo radical changes to my relationship with work. I share this experience not to gain your sympathy, but to let you know I understand the enormous levels of stress that leaders face and the toll that it can take on you. I have real-world, hard-won knowledge of what it takes to recover and come back from this type of traumatic experience.
  3. Single parenthood. While building my career, I raised two kids as a single-father. I can relate to the pressures of trying to build out a career while still dealing with the responsibilities and obligations of raising children, and I know how difficult it can be to figure out how to get everything done in difficult circumstances.
  4. Fearless accountability. My style is to give you a “kick in the pants” when you need it. Some coaches use approaches that are very empathetic, couching their messages in soft language. That is not my style. Instead, I practice open and direct communication. I will hold a mirror up and directly challenge you if your actions are not corresponding to what you are saying. Of course, I still always speak respectfully, but my messaging is more blunt and direct than some people are used to hearing. If you aren’t open to hearing direct and honest feedback, I am probably not the coach for you.

Hopefully, this provides you with some insight into if I would be the right coach to lead you on your journey to transform your career into something you love.
